Carbon Offsets
Carbon offsets are a way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gas emissions.
There are two markets for carbon offsets, In the larger market you have companies, governments or other large parties buying carbon offsets to comply with caps on the total amount of carbon dioxide they are allowed to emit.
In the smaller market people, companies or governments voluntarily buy carbon offsets to make up for their own greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, electricity use and other sources.
These offsets are obtained through financial support of projects that help reduce and limit the emissions of greenhouse gasses. These are typically in the form of green energy, such as wind farms or hydroelectric dams.
